On our trip out to California to visit with Melanie's dad/Jake's Grandpa, we made a day out of adventuring in La Jolla. Since we don't really know anything about La Jolla or the places to eat, we hit up Yelp! to help us with our decision. The Taco Stand immediately came up, we liked the reviews, so we decided to give it a try.
Now Melanie and I, really like to consider ourselves as somewhat of taco and burrito connoisseurs. St. Augustine, the city where I attended journalism school, is littered with really good taco joints (Taco Shops, Mojo's, Nalu's and Playa Chac Mool, just to name a few) and Vero Beach, where we now live, has upped their taco game a lot in the past years. So we were excited to give the Taco Stand a shot.
Upon spotting the stand, which is more or less a hole-in-the-wall, we were impressed by the line of people pouring out the front door waiting to order. The line moved fast, which is a blessing when you have a child/childen, and in no time, we were ordering.
Mel special ordered a Pescado (Mahi Mahi) burrito ($8), I got a pollo asada (chicken) burrito ($7) and an order of chips with guacamole ($3) and Jake got a cheese quesadilla ($4.29, so all together with a couple drinks our meal came out to $25. Not bad for a family of three.
The burritos were top notch, with the tortillas being rolled out as you order them. The fish in Melanie's burrito tasted like they had just caught it, while the chicken in my mine tasted fresh from the farm. We dug into the bar of sauce's the Taco Stand offers as well. Our favorites were the one-of-a-kind cilantro sauce and their incredible chipotle sauce. Both are a must.
Needless to say, we left the Taco Stand feeling full and satisfied with our lunch decision for our day in La Jolla. We highly recommend this little hole-in-the-wall to anyone who loves great tacos and burritos.
