It was the third day of our two week long road trip up to Nantucket. We had just gotten to Phil’s family friend's, Joanne and Terry’s, farm the day before, they own a beautiful piece of property at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia.
On Saturday June 11, 2016, all three of us set out to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our first stop was some much needed breakfast at The Great Harvest Bread company in downtown Warrenton. Which was the perfect treat before for a full day of hiking.
We began our adventure to the blue ridge mountains driving on skyline drive in The Shenandoah National Park, stopping at some of the beautiful viewpoints along the way.
The first trail we decided to hike was the Stony Man trail which is a 1.6 mile (.8 up .8 back) hike to a gorgeous viewpoint overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and the town of Luray.
Being Jakes very first hike in the mountains, he did a fantastic job. He had so much fun hiking all the way to the top without needing to be picked up. When we finally got to the top of the mountain, we took some time taking in the beautiful view.
Phil told me he wanted to get some photos of us on top of the mountain. He then told me to stand in front of the camera while he set up his tripod and camera. To my surprise he walked up with the most beautiful engagement ring in his hand, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him (he was secretly filming, not taking photos). I, of course said yes, the second best day of my life! (Jakes birth being the best day of my life). It felt surreal, being proposed to by the love of my life on the top of a mountain. It was literally a perfect day.
